Radford Motors, automotive brand leading a renaissance in the art of coachbuilding, has proudly announced the successful delivery of the company’s first Type 62-2 personal commission model at the prestigious Monterey Car Week in California. This exceptional vehicle, meticulously crafted to the client’s exact specifications, showcases Radford’s commitment to timeless design and personalised transport.
The Radford Type 62-2 personal commission boasts a captivating design that seamlessly merges modern aesthetics with tributes to motor racing’s rich heritage, and each detail is completely bespoke. Shashi Reddy, the car’s owner, collaborated closely with Radford’s designer to create a car which was uniquely his.
The exterior features a deep blue upper finish – a nod to motorsport heritage, as the colour appeared on the D-type XKD 606 that won the 1957 Le Mans 24 Hours race. For the lower, silver was chosen, echoing the car’s distinctive silver-painted wheel centre and rim, as well as the elegant satin chrome mirror caps and tailpipes. The perfect contrast to the personal commission’s black brake calipers.
The interior of the car is also entirely bespoke, with Shashi having chosen to use the satin chrome mirror for the car’s switch bezels, and jewellery. The attention to detail is apparent at every angle.
A light interior was chosen to make the cockpit feel open and airy, with a silver pearl nubuck being used for the upper environment, and a silver pearl semi-aniline leather for the lower environment, handbrake grip and gear selector console.
While the Radford Type 62-2 is critically acclaimed for its breath-taking high-performance driving dynamics, it was the captivating allure of the car’s design that first drew Shashi to the brand.
“The moment I saw the first pictures of the Radford Type 62-2, I found the design utterly intriguing. You don’t find many car shapes that just catch your eye in that way,” Shashi explained, “Today, there are a lot of choices for expensive cars, and as someone who has been collecting them for twenty years, I look to find something special about every single one.
“With the Radford Type 62-2, I was particularly captivated by the aesthetics of the car’s front nose and the rear clamshell. Plus the fact that the team is using underpinnings from Lotus, but then modifying these into a new car was something I found very appealing too.”
Shashi’s car was designed exactly to his own preferences and is truly his. Radford works closely with each customer to ensure that each Type 62-2 is a beautifully considered piece of cutting-edge design that is respectful of heritage. Every Radford owner gets an experience like no other – the ability to design a car to their very own specifications, with meticulous attention to detail. With no two ever alike, every Radford car is an entirely personal piece of automotive performance art. Tuned to perfection, each car provides not only an incomparable driving experience but represents a unique personal statement for each customer.
