Ambitious Saudi racer makes preparations for European debut in Valencia after claiming first podium finish for a Saudi Arabian driver in Muscat
JEDDAH (SAUDI ARABIA): Thirteen-year-old Saudi Arabian hopeful Omar Sindi has made a superb start to his journey to become a budding motor sporting star of the future.
Sindi was recently nominated by the SAMF to represent the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the MENA Karting Championship Nations Cup in Oman 2022 in the Mini Max category, in which he finished third overall. This was the first time that a Saudi racer achieved a podium position in the MENA Karting Championship Cup, which is held under the auspices of the FIA and is considered to be one of the most competitive tournaments in the region.
The youngster will be bidding for success in this year’s IAME Series KSA, a professional karting championship being organised by The Track Jeddah and sanctioned by the SAMF. The IAME Series KSA is one of several karting championships running in tandem around the world.
He won the opening round and looked set to take a second victory in round two, only for a penalty to drop him down to second place, but Sindi is the current leader of the Juniors Championship. His target is to be competing in F4 by the time he’s 15.
He is also making final preparations for his next event – competing in the Juniors category at the Valencia Winter Cup 2023 on February 5th. –
“I started racing competitively last year,” said young Sindi. “I was nominated by the SAMF to represent the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the MENA Karting Cup in Oman and finished third in my class. I also compete regularly in UK events and am looking forward to my first European race.
“I would like to thank the SAMF for giving me the honour of representing my country. I would also like to thank my family for all the support then have given me, Hamza Dirani, my mentor in Jeddah, Jorge Vitorino, my mechanic and Abdullah El-Khereiji, my team-mate, and the rest of the Saudi team. I look forward to representing my country in future events.”
