Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America Round 6 Recap From Road America

ELKHART LAKE, Wis  – A warm, humid morning the Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America competitors as they took the checkered flag at the 14-turn, four-mile Road America circuit. Exciting racing and a clean race followed the drop of the green flag and at the end of 50 minutes winners and podium finishers had the chance to celebrate in Victory Lane in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin.
The field was led to the starting line by Taylor Proto in the No. 50 P1 Motorsports, Lamborghini Broward who was sitting on his first-ever Lamborghini Super Trofeo pole. He kept the car in a comfortable lead of over 15 seconds in the overall and PRO Class, until his mandatory pit stop and then turned over the car to his teammate Edoardo Piscopo. That lead was closed after the pit stops by No. 29 Change Racing, Lamborghini Charlotte driven by Corey Lewis and No. 1 Wayne Taylor Racing, Lamborghini Paramus piloted by Trent Hindman to only 2-3 seconds for after those stops but Piscopo steadily increased the lead over the final 12 minutes to earn the team’s second victory of the season by over six seconds over Lewis and Hindman.
With the results of race, Taylor Proto and Piscopo move into a tie with Lewis and Madison Snow for first place in the PRO Class who each now have 70 points. Brandon Gdovic and Shinya Sean Michimi in the No. 46 PPM, Lamborghini Palm Beach were leading the points at the beginning of the day but their fourth place finish dropped them to third with 67 points.
The PRO-AM Cup race was lead in the first half by Steven McAleer in the No. 10 Wayne Taylor Racing, Lamborghini Paramus before the mandatory pit stop. A tire issue caused the team to make a longer than normal pit stop and hence give up the lead. That presented the opportunity to Loris Spinelli in the No. 71 P1 Motorsports, Lamborghini Broward to erase a sizeable deficit to go on to the victory by two laps over the No. 10.
The class victory increased Perez and his teammate Loris Spinelli lead to 23 points as they now have 74.
Ben Albano in the No. 5 P1 Motorsports, Lamborghini Broward, competing in his first weekend of Lamborghini Super Trofeo action, took the car out quickly at the beginning of the race in the AM Class. He turned the car over to co-driver Patrick Liddy and he extended the lead over the final half of the race as this combination won for the first time this season. The duo won their class by 29 seconds over Round 5 winner Damon Ockey (No. 09 US RaceTronics, Lamborghini Calgary) but also finished 21 seconds behind the overall winner and in fifth place.
Ockey’s second place finish, coupled with his pole for the race, moves him into first place in the class standings. He now has 75 points and is one ahead of Ryan Hardwick (No. 2 Dream Racing Motorsport, Lamborghini Atlanta) who finished third on Sunday.
Sheena Monk (No. 7 Wayne Taylor Racing, Lamborghini Paramus) held the early lead in LB Cup until she and Parris Mullins (No. 88 US RaceTronics, Lamborghini La Jolla) were involved in an incident with 32 minutes remaining in Turn 12. Both cars to spun off the track but continued with Brett Meredith in his No. 66 GMG Racing, Lamborghini Newport Beach becoming the leader. Following the mandatory stops, there were a few lead changes until Meredith regained his lead of about 10 seconds which he continued to extend in the second half of the race. Monk was trying to close the gap in the late stages of the race before she spun with about seven minutes remaining and Meredith was able to go on to comfortably win his third consecutive race.
Meredith’s two victory this weekend vaulted him into second place in the point standings. He is now one ahead of Monk after she finished second. Mark Porto and Mullins finished third and now have 77 points and lead the table by 18 points over Meredith.
The exciting action of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America series will take continue with Rounds 8 and 9 at VIRginia International Raceway in two weeks on August 18 and 19th. Those races will be streamed live on IMSA.TV and
